In our interview, Franka shares her approach to styling, the role Lush Living plays in her home, and her top tips for curating a space that feels both personal and inviting.
How would you describe your interior style and what inspires you?
My interior style is very calm and relaxed. I love light, soft colors that create a peaceful atmosphere, especially when it comes to the furniture. In the evenings, I make it extra cozy by dimming the lights and lighting candles. Despite the calm base colors, I like to add pops of color with accessories like cushions, candles, crystals, paintings, and flowers. This brings a playful and personal touch without making it feel too busy. I live in the center of Amsterdam, but at home, I really want to create an oasis of peace—as if I’m not in the city at all.
What role have items from Lush Living played in creating your home?
Lush Living has truly played a central role in creating the atmosphere in our home. My boyfriend and I are so happy with how everything is styled now; we often prefer staying in over going out! It’s exactly what we wanted: a calming oasis where everything is perfectly coordinated. The addition of colorful items like cushions and accessories in orange and yellow makes our interior unique, while still feeling peaceful and harmonious.
What makes the house truly ‘Franka Vedder’?
What makes the house truly ‘Franka’ is the combination of a calm, harmonious feel with a unique twist. I believe it’s important that a home really reflects your personality. When you walk in, the house should give a sense of who you are. It’s peaceful, cozy, and warm, with its own character thanks to the colorful accents and, of course, the atmosphere I create with lots of candles and crystals. It feels like a safe, serene place—but with a personal touch that sets it apart from other homes.
What’s your favorite spot in the house and why?
My absolute favorite spot is the couch, surrounded by all the cushions. Candles lit, music playing, my feet up on the rug and a glass of red wine in hand—that, for me, is the ultimate moment of relaxation. It’s the place where I fully unwind and let go of the day’s stress.
Can you tell us more about the cushion line you designed with Lush Living? What tips would you give to others who want to create a personal and atmospheric interior?
The cushions I designed with Lush Living come in three beautiful colors: white, orange with a gray/white print on the back, and burgundy red. They’re designed to mix and match perfectly, but also look beautiful and strong on their own. The colors blend beautifully into any interior without being overpowering. My tip for a personal and atmospheric interior is to work with accessories that speak to you, like cushions, candles, or artworks. They can really bring your space to life. And while it’s lovely to fill your couch with cushions, even just two or four can already create a great vibe. I sometimes place them on dining chairs or on the rug near the sofa for that extra bit of coziness!
